1.2.1
New in version 1.2.1
---------------------------
Version 1.2.1 is a FREE update which implements maintenance fixes, and adds a bonus feature.
[Every Europa Software maintenance update includes at least one bonus feature, as a way of saying thank-you to our loyal customers.]
Copy PageMarks to Clipboard
----------------------------------------
Select a Pagemark and press Command-C to copy the PageMark's URL to the Clipboard -- great for pasting URLs into email, databases, contact records, or whatever.
If you Copy multiple items one after another while the menu is pulled down, the PageMarks are all added to the Clipboard as a group.
Automatic PageMarks Backup
----------------------------------------
At an interval you select (defaulting to 2 days), Web Quick automatically backs up the PageMark & Topics preference files within the Web Quick Prefs folder in your System Folder's Preferences folder. If something damages your PageMarks or Topics file, you have another chance to recover most of your navigation history. It's still a good idea to make a periodic backup of your Preferences files.
Page Errors Filtered Out
----------------------------------------
Blank titles, partial page loads, and standard HTML error code pages are filtered out from the Recent Web Pages (i.e. "Not Found" , "File Not found", or "Unauthorized" pages). This keeps bad URLs from cluttering your menus.
Special Handling for PPP Connections
----------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT: If you use a dialup PPP-based connection, please open the Preferences dialog and turn on the "Using PPP" checkbox. If you switch your connection method to a direct Ethernet connect, remember to turn this check box off.
Ñ New, more efficient PageMark file format reduces RAM footprint.
Ñ Pre-installed links status in Preferences dialog sticks across sessions.
Ñ Brings Browser to the front on choosing a Web Quick command.
Ñ Fixes problems with popup menus within other apps in Power Macs.
Ñ Resolves FreePPP problem that crashed Netscape if the PPP connection wasn't already up
when you triggered a Web Quick action. FreePPP version 2.5v2 or later is recommended.
Note: Preferences files created by all previous versions work with version 1.2.1. You do not need to replace them.

1.2
New in version 1.2
-----------------------
Version 1.2 is a FREE upgrade which implements maintenance fixes, boosts Power Mac performance, and adds some new bonus features.
New Features in 1.2:
---------------------------
Major Speedup in version 1.2
-------------------------------------------
╩╩╫ newly-tuned internals are Accelerated for Power Macintosh
New Options in version 1.2
-------------------------------------------
Access these new options via the Preferences dialog:
╩╩╫ lets you import Bookmark files from Netscape Navigator & Microsoft Internet Explorer
╩╩╫ option to turn off Web Quick╒s collection of pre-installed links to popular Web resources -- making more room for your personal Topics collection. Addresses a frequent power-user request since 1.0
╩╩╫ option to turn off the Browser popup menu if you think you may be having browser compatibility problems
Ñ OtherMenu extension must load after Web Quick -- if you install OtherMenu, you'll need to reorder it.
The requirements below are met by default when installing Web Quick in a standard MacOS environment:
Ñ CE Toolbox extension must load before Web Quick
Ñ Now Super Boomerang must load after Web Quick
Ñ╩~ATM [Adobe Type Manager] must load after Web Quick
If you use a startup management utility like Now Startup Manager 6.x or earlier, its sorting function may force Web Quick to load last. If so, Web Quick advises you of a potential conflict at startup, and asks you to reorder your extensions and restart. Until you do so, Web Quick disables itself.
Open your startup management utility, and drag Web Quick up above these items [but not ahead of CE Toolbox], to an appropriate place in the load order. We recommend you place Web Quick in normal alphabetical order among your other extensions, ahead of your control panels.
Now Startup Manager 7.0, from Now Software, Inc. has built-in load order rules for Web Quick. We will work with Now Software to keep the Now Startup Manager Reference Library up-to-date. If new ordering or conflict issues should arise with third-party software, the live Web-based Reference Library will let you automatically take advantage of our research to keep your Macintosh environment productive.
We highly recommend you upgrade to Now Startup Manager 7.0. If you use any other extension management or conflict-catching utility, we think you should upgrade to Now Startup Manager 7.0 now, and stop wasting your valuable time.
Problem: my Mac crashes when I first pull down the Web Quick icon or click in the
menu bar
Cause: See above; you are running a conflicting extension, or your startup manager is making Web Quick load last, and causing an load-order conflict.
Solution: Open your startup manager, and drag Web Quick up to its normal alphabetical position. Restart. If this doesn't produce a quick fix, use your startup manager's conflict isolation to pin down the conflicting extension. Try reordering it relative to Web Quick. We also recommend you upgrade to Now Startup Manager 7.0.
----------------------------
Problem: the Web Quick icon doesn't appear in the menu bar, or is partially
overlapped by a custom menu
Cause A:) You probably are using a startup management utility (Now Startup
Manager, Conflict Catcher) and it has forced Web Quick to load last, after all
your other active extensions and control panels. One of these is ~ATM, or Now
Super Boomerang; Web Quick advised you of this with a startup alert.
Solution: Open your startup manager, and drag Web Quick up to its normal place in
alphabetical order, toward the end of the extensions [i.e. after Network Extension, QuickTime,
Speech Manager etc.] and ahead of your control panels [like After Dark, Color, Date & Time,
Desk Patterns, etc]. We also recommend you upgrade to Now Startup Manager 7.0.
Cause B:) You are using Now Menus 5.x or 6.x, and you have defined one or more
custom menus in the menu bar. Web Quick relocates itself automatically to avoid
an overlapping Now Menus custom menu locations, but, it may not succeed in some
circumstances.
Solution: Hold down the Command key, and drag your Now Menus custom menu icons to
the right. The Web Quick Icon appears. Now command-drag the Web Quick icon to
another available location.
----------------------------
Problem: when registering my trial copy securely, I get an error saying that
Europa's server is too busy or has gone down.
Cause: Web Quick automatically brings you to our site to register. You then
choose either a secure or non-secure registration form. Your Internet connection
passes through an incorrectly configured firewall, letting you use TCP port 80
(the normal Web server port), but not port 443 ╤ required by secure Web servers.
Solution:
A) Short-term Remedy:
1) to register Web Quick, use the non-secure form one of two ways:
Ñ take a minimal risk: register Web Quick online. There is a tiny chance of
interception, and the impact of somebody potentially capturing your name and
address is probably not a major concern. (If it is, don't do this.)
or,
Ñ play it safe: complete the registration form, print it, and fax it to Europa at
503-796-9134. Please allow 48 hours turnaround. For further assistance, please
email service@europasoftware.com.
2) to buy Web Quick, use the non-secure form to:
Ñ╩play it safe, only: complete the Purchase form, print it, and fax it to Europa
at 503-796-9134. Please allow 48 hours turnaround. For further assistance,
please email service@europasoftware.com.
B) Long-term Remedy:
Get your administrator to fix the firewall so you can access secure Web servers.
Register and buy Web Quick securely.
----------------------------
Problem: just after I register (or buy) Web Quick using a Secure form, I'm warned
that information is about to be sent insecurely!
Cause: After secure registration and purchase, Web Quick loads a non-secure Thank
You page. Both the Netscape and Microsoft browsers are set by default to warn you
every time you transition from a secure page to a non-secure page (and vice
versa).
The data you just sent is safe. Your browser is zealously warning you when it
encounters the non-secure Thank You page.
Solution:
Use the checkboxes in the warning dialog to turn future warnings off.
You can identify secure forms; they display a purple border, just under the title area
at the upper edge of the browser window.
Ñ Netscape Navigator also displays a golden key in the lower left corner; the key
is in two pieces on a non-secure form.
Ñ Internet Explorer displays a locked padlock in the lower left corner; in
non-secure mode, the padlock hasp is open (unlocked).
